Redpen AI secures £415k contract to identify dyslexia earlier in primary school pupils

Redpen AI has secured a £415,000 contract from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to help schools identify dyslexia earlier in primary school pupils.
The funding supports Dyslexia Indicators, our coming product that looks for patterns linked to dyslexia in children's handwritten work and returns a clear risk indication — never a diagnosis — with the evidence attached.
Too many children wait years for support. By working from the writing pupils already produce in class, we aim to give SENCOs, teachers and families an earlier signal of who may need a closer look.
We are developing and validating the models with university research partners before wider release. UKRI’s backing helps us deepen the science, pilot with schools and families, and keep pupil data secure within UK infrastructure.
We are grateful to UKRI for supporting early-stage edtech that puts children and teachers first — and we look forward to sharing what we build with primary schools across the country.
